A website is like a shop window. People will walk up to it and take a look however if the window display isn’t appealing and doesn’t show them what they are looking for them they will carry on walking and look at the next window (or go to the pub!). That is why it is important to follow these Top Tips to succeed with your website.
1. Make sure you have a solid Web Design or Refresh your current design.
It is hugely important that you have a solid base for you business. In this case a Website.
Don’t settle for a cheap easy solution, make sure you go for a design that suits your needs and more importantly the needs of your customers.
Think about your own buying behaviour, you are unlikely to buy anything from a website that looks tacky and messy; you are much more likely to buy from a site that’s well organised, good looking and professional.
If it is already too late and you have gone for the cheap option you may want to consider a web refresh and look to update your site. The overall goal is to create a clean and unified look that invites users to go deeper into your site and ultimately make a purchase.
2. Create Visible and Enticing Calls to Action
As part of your websites navigation you will want to consider the position of your Call to Action. All too often the call to action is tucked away at the bottom of the page where a user is less likely to find it. Make sure your calls to action are visible by placing them higher up your page, this will allow a visitor to see exactly where they need to go to make a purchase or enquiry.
The other important part of calls to action is the wording you use. Make sure the wording is appealing and not pushy, but stands out clearly (Buy Now, Order Today etc.). Also make sure it suits the overall theme of your site and doesn’t look out of place.
3. Make Visitors ‘Stick’ to your site
If people are visiting your site but not hanging around then you will never get any sales. Ways to improve the ‘stickiness’ of your site include adding relevant and interesting content, adding a search box allowing visitors to find exactly what they want or including a blog or forum allowing visitors to interact and find out more information.
4. Aim to get visitors onto sales focused areas of your site
It is important to get visitors to what they are looking for in as few clicks as possible. This can be achieved by adding a list of ‘best sellers’ or ‘new products’ to your home page that each link to the specific product. Visitors will start to lose interest if it takes them more than 3 or 4 clicks to find what they are looking for.
5. Focus on your Target Market
The best way to do this is to put yourself in your customers shoes. How would you go about finding your product if it was something you required?
Do some research and find out what websites, forums or blogs your customers are looking at. The goal is to place your website in front of as many potential customers as possible.
