…and eCommerce SEO gave Webtise the Ten eMarketing Commandments on Mount Riverside to serve as principles of eMarketing behaviour for the human race:
Thou shalt use Google’s Webmaster Tools
Monitor your website with Webmaster Tools. It will help you diagnose any problems with your site and discover which queries drive traffic to your site. Google Webmaster Tools shall be your guide if you are unclear which path to take.
Thou shalt always target relevant keywords
It’s not all about traffic. Obviously you want as many people visiting your site as possible, but it is more important to target the people who will bring you sales. So target keywords that your audience will search for rather than bland, generic terms.
Thou shalt never steal content
Search engines will be onto you if you are ripping content from other sites – so it will not benefit SEO. What it will do is annoy customers and the author of the original work.
Thou shalt always promote thy best deals in thy ads
It may be a tedious prospect updating your copy and ads regularly, but it will reap rewards. Make sure your customers know what your best deals are and they will keep coming back.
Thou shalt honour thy organic search and paid campaigns
Whilst paid campaigns should get you queries quickly, organic search is the backbone of SEO. Have your back covered by ensuring your organic search is up to scratch with unique content filled with keywords. Organic search is a long-term solution and cheap – invaluable if a time comes when you have to cut your paid campaigns.
Thou shalt encourage social media sharing
Add social media sharing icons to your sites and blogs. Keep your content lively and interesting and your customers will advertise for you. Social media sharing is the new word-of-mouth.
Thou may well benefit from localised optimisation
Drive relevant traffic to your site that will have a high conversion rate. Entice the people from your local area online.
Thou shalt ensure every URL is descriptive
Although www.webtise.co.uk/page1 may seem practical and organised, www.webtise.co.uk/ecommerce-web-design will boost your SEO ranking. Provide descriptive URLs wherever possible.
Thou shalt use keywords in titles and headlines
Use <H1> (header 1) and <H2> (header 2) tags for all your content and ensure all your titles and headlines are laden with your keywords. This will help search engines find your relevant pages.
Thou shalt honour thy human and search engine equally
Getting ranked number one for a relevant keyword on a search engine is obviously the dream, but not at the cost of alienating customers when they get to the site. Make sure your site is search engine and human friendly.
